Mrs. Chichón has been involved in the world of dance for over 40 years. As a dancer and performer she trained extensively in ballet, modern and jazz techniques, completing major ballet examinations and receiving numerous awards and scholarships for dance performance and choreography.

While simultaneously pursuing her undergraduate degree in political science, she furthered her dance training in the Professional Training Program of the School of Toronto Dance Theatre. There she was fortunate to work with, and learn from, numerous teachers and choreographers, studying the Graham technique and performing chosen works.

Since 1993 Mrs. Chichón has been teaching dance in the private sector as well as teaching dance for various school boards. She holds her Masters of Teaching (Dance) degree from the University of Surry, England, is a full member and Registered Teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), holds her Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies (CBTS) and is an ABT® Certified Teacher.

Some of her students have gained acceptance and scholarships to prestigious international schools and summer intensives, and have placed successfully in major international ballet competitions such as the World Ballet Competition (WBC), Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP), Youth International Ballet Competition (ADC IBC), and the World Ballet Art Competition Grand Prix (WBAC). Various students have also gone on to dance with companies such as the National Ballet of Canada, Les Grands Ballet Canadiens and the Paris Opera Ballet.

Mrs. Chichón has been a tutor for the RAD since 2011, assisting student teachers enrolled in the CBTS program, who are beginning their journey to become ballet teachers. Additionally, she is an avid researcher whose academic research has focused primarily on teaching methodologies to optimize student learning, assessing readiness for pointe training, and investigating the social, economic and political factors which affect the dance learning environment.

Mrs. Chichón was honoured to receive the ‘Outstanding Teacher’ Award at the World Ballet Art Competition Grand Prix, (2017).
