Jonathan Urie has been a secondary school teacher at Burlington Royal Arts Academy since its inception, where he currently teaches English, History and ESL classes. When he is not teaching at BRAA, he is teaching in the Grand Erie District School Board or engaged in building renovations with JT Construction.
Jonathan has a Bachelor of Arts: English Literature and Language Honours degree from Brock University with a major in English and minor in Philosophy and History. He earned his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Education’s Althouse College of Teacher Education. He has additional accreditation in Special Education.
Early in his teaching career, Jonathan and his wife Annette moved to London, England where for two years she taught music classes and he taught English to the English! This experience informed and enriched his understanding of the importance of the global community and how education plays such an instrumental role in our increasingly interrelated societies.
Jonathan enjoys ice hockey, soccer, fixing up his hobby farm, Winston Churchill’s musings, reading old books by classical writers and encouraging young people to appreciate the classics, aka the “old stuff” as much as he does. He is married and blessed to have two lovely daughters and a son.
