2019 Workshops

Our academy is committed to becoming a local leader in arts education.  To achieve this goal we will be offering free workshops and master classes for area students to gain additional experiences with arts industry professionals from across the G.T.A. We hope to attract students ages 12 and up to our workshop series, targeting grades 6-8 with the hopes that our first class of Grade 9’s will begin here in September 2020. Students are under no obligations to enrol and can simply attend to take advantage of the workshops being offered. Classes will enhance a student’s portfolio for post-secondary arts programs and allow them exposure to the types of activities we offer at BRAA.

Chris Thornborrow’s masterclass is an introduction to music composition in a group setting. Through a series of activities that include listening, improvisation, and performance, we will develop new sounds together and shape those into an original piece of music, which we will then perform. Bring your instruments, your voice, and your ideas! Whether you’ve written a symphony, or never written a song in your life, all are welcome!

“Did you know that 3.5 million Canadians sing in a choir and three times more children under the 18 sing choir than play hockey (Choral Canada Census, 2017)? In this workshop with Elise Naccarato and Myriad, experience what it means to sing in a choir and combine many-voiced and hearts to sing as one voice.  In this 45 min rehearsal attendees will experience a brief warm-up, learning of a short piece and mini performance.”

Join Haleigh Eady for her dance performance workshop. Get ready to dance with purpose and precision! Working on principal aspects of classical dance technique and contemporary variations of movement and choreography in a creative classroom at BRAA. We will be exploring the use of ballet in contemporary dance and developing your artistic style. The class will be a short sampling of what a dance class for students at BRAA would be like!

Masterclass & Workshop Guest Artists

The BRAA Difference includes opportunities for our students to work with arts industry professionals in a variety of different ways. We will be offering master classes at different times of the year focusing on music, theatre, dance, visual arts and audition preparations. Most of our artists have attended post-secondary institutions in Canada and have a wealth of experience to share with our students. We will also provide guest artist instruction during the day in our regular credit program as well. Below is a sampling of artists who are already working with BRAA to offer our students the most enriching arts education experience possible.
