Beryl Cohen, B.F.A (Hons.) B.Ed. M.Ed. has served with the Ontario Art Education Association for a number of years, where she has written, edited, and managed several Ontario Ministry curriculum projects as well as co-organized conferences. With qualifications from K-12, and an M. Ed with a focus on Art Education, Beryl served for eight years as a founding teacher with Karen Kain School of the Arts, Toronto District School Board (TDSB). She has received several awards including the Elementary Teachers of Toronto Environmental Educator of the Year (2010), The W. A Townshend Award for Education in M.Ed Studies, University of Western Ontario (2014), and the Ronita deBlois Canadian Art Educator of the Year award for K-8 from the Canadian Society for Education through Art (2016). As a Visual Arts advocate, Visual Arts AQ Instructor at OISE/UT, and TDSB Instructional Learning Coach, Beryl infuses social justice, equity, environmental literacy and technology into many of her courses. Beryl believes that learning through the arts, and about the arts enriches and engages both student and teacher alike. On May 1, 2019 Beryl will be honoured by Ontario educators when she is honoured with the Ray Blackwell Award of Excellence for Visual Arts Education. This award recognizes the career contributions of individuals for their exemplary practices and their advocacy role in supporting education in and through the visual arts.
